Fields College Celebrates 50 Golden Years

Fields College Celebrates 50 Golden Years

Excellence in all Fields

The first English Medium Primary School in Rustenburg opened its doors on 16 April 1968 at its premises in von Weilligh Street. By January 1970 the name Fields had been chosen and it continues to embody collectively fields of achievement in academics, sport, culture, endeavour and opportunity. In addition, the school’s emblem the Aloe Peglarae, is indigenous to the Magaliesberg mountain range and found only along its upper reaches.
On the 20th July 1971, the eleven staff members and 302 learners walked across to the new location in Klopper street, where it remains today. The current principal, Arlene Holding (nee Pennefather) was the first head girl of the school and her father Mr J Pennefather was the first serving chairperson of the School Governing Body. The Fields Family had been firmly established and now stands at 1589 learners and 77 educators.

50 Golden Years have produced more milestones and memories than we can list, but we remember with great pride when the High School section was opened in 2003 providing a new home for English speaking learners. Our 100% Matric pass rate for ten consecutive years is of special pride to us all and these talented individuals who belong to our Alumni and bear the proud moniker of ‘Fieldonians’, are creating change on the national and international stage. In 2010 Fields was chosen as a Fan Park for the FIFA World Cup and it was a privilege to be such an integral part of showcasing Rustenburg to the world.

Fields College is already preparing for the future by finalising its plans for a brand-new hall for the high school section. We continue to evolve in our vision to serve the English speaking learners of Rustenburg and beyond, as we complete our Grade RR section of the school. The principal’s vision to provide a complete educational journey for our children is almost complete and we are thrilled that our first intake of Grade RR and Matric learners will be sharing this wonderful school from January 2019.

16th April is the school’s official birthday and we are holding a celebration for the Fields Family, past and present, from 10.30-11.30am. Please do email the office at by Monday 26th March if you wish to share this special moment with us.

Happy 50th Birthday Fields Family!
